COVID 19 swab test. Not enjoyable, but if it’s the worst I suffer during these Difficulties, then I’ll be fortunate. I sneezed violently a number of times afterward, and my nasal passages and my throat feel like I’m in the middle of a massive head cold.
[EDIT] This discomfort is the result of the test itself. Missus and I are fine as far as we know. The birth spasm is imminent for our first grandchild and we want to make sure we are safe to visit them.

Yeah, its not great. Sorry you are feeling poorly, hopefully it’ s just one of the other things going around. or nothing. Mine I am pretty sure was either allergies or a sinus infection that cleared up on its own.

Yep, I’ll be getting tested later this week. Best of luck!

Is the massive head cold due to the bottle brush or were you feeling bad before? Is this a precautionary test or have you been exposed?

I edited. I felt fine before the test. We have no reason to think we are unwell or that we were exposed.

Just irritated by the test itself. AFAIK, we are fine.

Yuck. I am not looking forward to getting that if I have to. My wife had one scare were we self isolated until the person she had come into contact with via work tested negative.

My wife has had to do it twice so far before visiting her doctor for a variety of random symptoms she’s been having. She said the second time was way more invasive.
In related news, today I went to the doc office to get blood drawn for a COVID antibody test. Curious to get the results! Kind of related to my wife’s ongoing issues. Both her, myself, and our toddler were quite ill in March - so we’ve been wondering if COVID went through our household before testing was even an option, and potentially her ongoing issues (all relatively minor so far, thankfully) may be side effects of it like you read about. If my antibody test comes back positive next step would be the 2 of them get tested for antibodies too.
Of course there are plenty of disclaimers about how they aren’t fully reliable, and we still don’t know what a positive test does/does not mean so what any of it will mean as far as changes to our life is still very much TBD.

Missus read that the antibody thing only works for around two weeks. We just got tested, out of curiosity. It was only a single-vial blood draw, and a 24-hour turnaround.

My wife and kids and I all got violently ill late Jan. early Feb. and we’ve long suspected we caught it before it really got on everyone’s radar. Haven’t been tested but I’d be curious to see the results. My sister in law is a birthing nurse. She’s has had 4 tests so far.

I don’t know if the antibody test will show anything after that long a time. Some of what we’ve read says it would not show up. I had a very funky cold and cough early in the year as well. Not particularly severe, but also not like any ordinary cold. I’m an educator and I’ve always wondered whether being exposed to dozens and hundreds of viruses all the time would pump me up.

Nope, I am not getting tested. They can shove that swab where the sun don’t shine. Just not on me ;)
Congrats on the imminent grandchild!

Good plan. I’ve had two. Both negative.

I’ve had two, and second was much more aggressive. Which makes me think it was probably more effective.

Last Monday the 6th, I went to CVS and found out the hard way that I had to do it myself.
Still waiting on results tho.

You had to test yourself ? Barbaric.

Yep. Had to go through the pharmacy drive thru, have the tech stick all the equipment needed via the slidebox, talk me through the process step by step, then put the doubled sealed sample in an entirely separate Dropbox attached to the building.
The shitty part: they give you a dis infectant wipes not to clean yourself with, but to wipe down the slidebox for the next customer

Our district published their plan to return to school today. The phrase “when possible” appears an alarming number of times. Also “self certify” and “sanitized frequently- at least once a day” make appearances.
As for attendance, they’re going full time K-5 and hybrid 6-12.
This may not go well :/

I predict they'll go full distance learning by the time school starts.

We’ll see.
I’m actually OK with a hybrid model, but I think they should shorten the day so the kids go home at 1 and eat lunch there.

My antibody test came back negative, sigh. Wife still considering getting one too to see if hers comes back negative too, which will help rule out the possibility of a false negative on my antibody test.

The question is how long the antibodies show up. If it’s not measured in months, then the test for your purposes might not be worth the effort. Same with us...
